DAY 19 – FOOD RE-INTRODUCTION

To begin the “Re-Introduction Phase”, start by consuming one “new food” on day 1 of your  trial. Begin with the food you previously ate most frequently and really miss. In most cases, the best place to start is with one of the “Big 5” offenders such as: Wheat, Dairy, Corn, Soy and Egg. Eggs are an especially good place to start as they are least likely to react and are a good source of nutrition and satisfaction.  Eat the trial food 2-3 times during that day and then do not eat it again for at least 48 hours, ideally 72 hours or 3 days. You should now be back on your “Baseline Diet”. If you have a reaction to the food during the next 48 hours, record it on your “Food Experience Journal” (p. 30 of your Post-Purification booklet) and do not eat it again for at least 3-6 months. If you are uncertain whether you had a reaction, re-test that food after the 72 hours. It is very helpful to create a chart or spreadsheet of your offending foods and the reactions you experienced for future reference.

 

Introduce a new/suspect food every 72 hours (3 days) and chart your progress or reactions

accordingly.

 

A Note on Reactions

If you have a reaction or symptoms occur, record it in your “Food Experience Journal”, along with the day and time. Contact the office as soon as you can and explain your symptoms to Dr. Roles or Lisa, along with how many hours/days it took to react after eating that new food.  By considering the timing of the introduction of the new food, Dr. Roles will likely be able to tell you which of the new foods you ate is suspicious.

 

As an example, let’s say you started eating one new food every three days and after day 7 you began to get abdominal cramps 6 hours after eating. The most likely foods to be suspicious of are milk, cheese, gluten, nuts, apples, coffee and pork. Dr. Roles would be able to help you determine which, if any of these, is the culprit. 

 

Or say you suddenly experienced a migraine 12 hours after eating. Highly suspicious foods would be chocolate, coffee, soy, corn, nuts, cola and foods containing MSG. Again, Dr. Roles is there to help you in determining which if these is most likely affecting you. 

 

Remember, the key to successfully identifying the culprit is maintaining good records of your re-introduction. It is always best to work closely with Dr. Roles in performing this “Elimination/Reintroduction” trial. Guidance from Dr. Roles can increase results. Hang in there with this important program – the results can change your life!

 

Suggested Order of Food Group Re-Introduction

DAY 22

EGGS

          Eat cooked eggs or a hard-boiled egg 2-3 times on Day 22

DAY 22-24  (Monday – Wednesday)

          KEEP PROGRAM THE SAME AS DAYS 11-21

DAY 25 (Thursday)

          GRAINS (Use Ezekial sprouted whole-grain bread)

                   Eat 2-3 slices at different times of the day

DAYS 25-27  (Thursday – Saturday)

          KEEP PROGRAM THE SAME AS DAYS 11-21

DAY 28 (Sunday)

          DAIRY (you can choose milk or cheese)

                   Eat 2-3 servings spread throughout the day

DAYS 28-30 (Sunday – Tuesday)

          KEEP PROGRAM THE SAME AS DAYS 11-21

 

HAVE THE IDEA?  Keep this pattern the same until you have tested all the foods you would like to possibly eat in the future.  If you have no reaction to a food, it is ok to eat that food again, but, remember, if you have the desire to lose more weight, you should continue to remain off the wheat and dairy.  (Use almond or rice milk in place of cow’s milk.  Goat yogurt is also a good choice)  Eggs are great if you do not react to them.

DAY TWO – ENERGY & TOXIN RELEASE

I hope everyone is doing well….   This is when it is common to experience increased fatigue, possible headaches and a general feeling of malaise (just feeling “crummy”). 

As toxins are leaving your body, which they are doing very efficiently at this very minute, your energy levels may drop because it takes alot of energy to move the toxins out of your body.  The whole food supplements you are taking are increasing your body’s ability to move the toxins properly out of your body through your skin, lungs, urine and GI tract.  When you feel up to it, cardio exercise is an excellent way to improve your body’s ability to clear your toxins.

Once the toxins in your system start to clear from your system, energy levels will start to climb.  In some cases, as much as 2-4 times normal.  This is not a “speedy” feeling.  It’s just an overall feeling of elevated well being.

KEEP THE FAITH!!!   YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!

SHAKES – For those of you struggling with your shakes, try my favorite recipe:

  • 3/4 cup Frozen Pineapple Chunks from Trader Joe’s
  • 3/4 cup Frozen Mango from Trader Joe’s
  • Add purified water and blend thoroughly to the consistancy of a thin shake
  • Add two level scoops of SP Complete Powder
  • If you feel you must, for flavor, add Stevia or Blue Agave from Trader Joe’s
  •      (It is best to go without the sweetener as your sugar cravings will reduce faster without the sweeteners)
  • You can also try adding some cinnamon to flavor
  • Susie’s suggestion – When using Strawberries – thaw them out first before adding to increase flavor

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK – THIS IS THE MOST CHALLENGING TIME – JUST WAIT UNTIL DAY 5 WHEN YOUR ENERGY STARTS TO CLIMB!!!

WELCOME TO A NEW LIFE!!!

Congratulations on successfully completing the 21-day Purification Program.  The key now is to incorporate what you have learned during this liver detoxification into your daily life.

Over the past week we have suggested an approach to re-introducing foods.  To assist in identifying potential food reactions, we have assembled a table adapted from Basics of Food Allergies, by Dr. James Breneman.

This table correlates allergic reactions with common offenders including the frequency of the time interval between when the food is eaten and when the symptoms begin to appear.  One can see that some reactions such as heartburn may occur very shortly after eating a particular food offender and other reactions may not present for days.  These reactions can be very difficult to assess and often go incorrectly diagnosed.  Unless there is some suspicion and some type of thorough evaluation, such reactions can be ascribed to many things other than the real cause.

Supplement Regimen for Post-Purification

If you have not already begun your regular supplement regimen during the final week of the purification program, you should do so today.  At a minimum, you should be adding a whole food multi-vitamin such as Catalyn to your daily diet.  If your goal is weight loss, remember there are additional supplements which you should also begin taking (review Weight Loss tips from Days 8-10).  Ask Dr. Roles to recommend the right supplements for you.

When Should I Do the Program Again?

It is recommended that you go through the 21-day purification program at least once every 12 months.  However, several patients find that they prefer to go through it once every 6 months, as it helps them to ‘reset’ and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Take it slow when reintroducing foods.  The key is to not overdo it!

ARE YOU STILL HUNGRY?

Remember, on the SP Purification Program, as you eliminate the foods that you crave, your body will at first experience a desire for them. You will feel like you are hungry when you really are not. You just feel “uneasy” because the body is starting to detoxify. If you were to eat your sugar, your chocolate or your starches… whatever you crave, the detoxification will stop and your “hunger” will go away. This is not true hunger, it is ADDICTIVE HUNGER. Once your body has cleared the toxins (3-5 days), your “hunger” will go away, your cravings will reduce and you will start to experience NORMAL HUNGER. A real sign when your body is actually telling you it is time to eat.

ALSO…. remember to eat LARGE AMOUNTS of greens and vegetables, both cooked and raw. Ideally a pound of each per day. The high amount water, fiber and nutrients will remove your hunger completely once your addictive hunger has passed.

DAY THREE – A MOST CRITICAL DAY!!!

This is the most critical day in your program…

It is VERY IMPORTANT to stick to your program 100%. 

Reminders

Remember, don’t cheat… hang in there!  Eating even a small amount of “unapproved food” can cause inflammation and slow down the results you will receive from this detoxification.  If you are getting too fatigued, make sure you are eating frequently and then try increasing the amount of Whey Protein in your shakes.  Also, as always, drink plenty of water.  This will help clear toxins faster and avoid constipation.

Constipation

If constipation occurs, INCREASE WATER / INCREASE VEGETABLES / EAT ONE WHOLE FRESH BEET DAILY

Retracing Old Injuries

Don’t be surprised if old symptoms you haven’t experienced in years begin to return during the program.  They should be of short duration and are considered a beneficial sign that your body is purging toxins and repairing underlying issues with your health.  Old injuries or conditions may resurface for anywhere from an hour to a day or more.  This theory is known as Homotoxicology and was developed by a German medical doctor named Dr. Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg.  If you would like to learn more about homotoxicology, we have assembled a short article for your reading.

In fact, one patient had an old wrist injury swell up during day two.  The interesting point is that she broke it almost 30 years ago.  There had been no swelling or problem of any kind noted in the 30 years since the original injury, however her body felt it necessary to bring heat, macrophages and other white blood cells in to perform long overdue repairs.  The swelling went back down to normal after a couple days.

 

Recipes of the DayMAGGIE’S SALAD DRESSING  (This is Susie’s favorite!!!)

 

  • 2 tsp. Dijon Mustard
  • 1/2 liter White Balsalmic Vinegar
  • 1/2 liter Water
  • 2 liters Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp. Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • Pinch of pepper

Garlic-Chili Roasted Broccoli

Ingredients: 

¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

6 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon grill seasoning blend or grill creations

1 large head of broccoli, cut into thin long spears

Directions:

1.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

2.

Place olive oil, garlic, chili powder and grill seasoning in the bottom of a large bowl and add the broccoli spears.

3.

Coat broccoli evenly and place on a large nonstick baking sheet. 

4.

Roast broccoli until ends are crisp and brown and stalks are just tender, approximately 15 minutes.
